“Just get me on the bike.” This is the motto of thousands of triathletes each race season who are nervous about their swims and keenly aware that they did not spend enough time in the pool. Don’t let this be you. While swimming makes up the shortest time portion of a triathlon, proper swim training is extremely effective in preparing for a successful triathlon. Since bikes and runs, the bulk of triathlon training, are leg-intensive, swim sessions can serve as additional cardiovascular exercise without taxing those overburdened leg muscles. This makes swims a great choice for recovery days, such as the day after a long brick workout.
